Volkswagen has released its production figures for 2020, with some 5 080 763 VW-badged vehicles built during a year ravaged by the global pandemic.
The Wolfsburg-based firm revealed the information during the VW Group’s annual media conference.
Rather interestingly, the Tiguan – which was facelifted in mid-2020 – was easily the most-built VW of the year, pulling away from the pack with 754 276 units produced. The Passat (including China’s Magotan) grabbed second place, with 477 892 units built.
The Polo (including the Virtus sedan) had to settle for third place with 467 765 units produced, ahead of the Jetta (including China’s Sagitar) in fourth with 422 908 units. The China-only Lavida (416 209) was fifth, with the Golf falling all the way to sixth with a figure of 408 528.
In addition, VW built 329 263 examples of the China-exclusive Bora, along with 285 824 units of the T-Cross. The T-Roc was right on its smaller sibling’s heels, with a final production figure for 2020 of 285 299 units.
Further down the list, you’ll find the fully electric ID.3 (64 259), the Up (59 786), the Saveiro half-tonne bakkie (41 146) and the Touareg (41 136). The Amarok bakkie, meanwhile, finished the year on a production figure of 36 343.
