The Volvo XC40 has been seeing reasonable success in South Africa since it was launched here in 2018. While initially available in T5 and D4 guise, the range was later revised with the entry-level T3 trim. After its latest price update, Volvo has now added a new mid-range trim which bears the T4 moniker.
The Volvo XC40 T4 utilises the same turbocharged 2,0-litre four-cylinder engine but with a 140 kW and 300 N.m of torque state-of-tune. This is delivered to the fronts via the eight-speed automatic transmission which gives it a 0-100 km/h time of 8,4 seconds. An all-wheel drive option for this engine is available in international markets but it looks like this has not made it to our local shores.
The Volvo XC40 T4 is available with the same trims as found with other models in the line-up. This includes the base Momentum (R622 988), Inscription (R715 798) and top-of-the-line R-Design trim (R716 198). All models come standard with the five-year/100 000 km warranty, maintenance plan and roadside assistance.
This new addition to the XC40 range preempts the all-electric Recharge which is due in SA by August 2021.
