VW Golf GTI driver clocked at 205 km/h in Gauteng…

The driver of a Volkswagen Golf GTI has been arrested for speeding in Gauteng, after being clocked at 205 km/h in a 120 km/h zone in Lenasia.

According to TimesLive, the 35-year-old speedster claimed he was “rushing to a meeting” in his black GTI after he was stopped by the Gauteng traffic police’s high-speed unit.

“He was arrested on the spot and taken to Lenasia South police station where he was charged with reckless driving and exceeding 120km/h on a freeway,” said Ofentse Morwane, department of community safety spokesperson, according to the publication.

Morwane added the Golf GTI driver was later released on R1 500 bail.

He went on to tell TimesLive a Mercedes-Benz driver nabbed at 204 km/h on the N3 was also arrested.

The 28-year-old was detained at Bedfordview police station and charged with reckless and negligent driving, with an alternative charge of exceeding the speed limit. He too was released on R1 500 bail.
