A Johannesburg speedster has reportedly been clocked at 210 km/h on the N12, with the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) saying he was driving a Ford Escort.
According to TimesLive, the 33-year-old was arrested after being nabbed on the N12 westbound between Sam Green bridge and the Germiston off-ramp.
It’s not clear exactly what type of Escort the speedster was driving, but we’re guessing it was suitably modified to be capable of reaching such speeds.
EMPD spokesperson, chief superintendent Wilfred Kgasago, told the publication the Escort driver provided “conflicting reasons” for his on-road behaviour.
“At first, he cited being late for work and later somersaulted and claimed he was being pursued by a suspicious white Mercedes-Benz,” Kgasago said.
The man was held at Bedfordview police station before being released on bail of R1 000. He is expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court where he will face charges of reckless and negligent driving.
