Little is known about the rare Apollo GT but the American Ferrari, as it is also known, looks so similar to its European counterparts of the 60s since it shares design DNA with them.
Jay Leno goes into far more detail in his YouTube video on this classic Apollo GT than we can succinctly summate into this write up here but there are a few key facts that make this beautifully crafted model so unique and appealing to the eye.
It may be powered by a brute American V8, compliments of a 3,5-litre Buick unit but the classic Apollo GT’s bodywork was partly conceived by iconic Italian automotive designer Franco Scaglione. He is the man behind the 1967 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale which is arguably the most beautiful car of all time but the American Ferrari adopted its name partly because its bodywork was hand formed in Torino, Italy which is why it looks so iconically like a coupe and convertible from the boot of Europe in the 1960s.

It may not have had the same raw power of the V12 powered Ferrari’s of the time, but the 168 kW output was still impressive. Only 88 Apollo GT models were ever produced making it highly rare and sought after with only 55 surviving today. Jay Leno got the keys to Kurt Brakhage’s example which he got to experience in this video.
This specific model was owned by Brakhage’s father, a dream car of his, which he bought 19 years ago at 72 years old. It had been in storage for a quarter of a decade when Brakhage had made the purchase and its lack of use required some work. Thus, in 2017, a restoration process began which is why the Apollo GT we see here looks like it has come straight out of the box.
