Earlier this week at the Geneva International Motor Show, Volvo whipped the covers off the all-new, second-generation XC60, declaring that it will be “one of the safest cars ever made”.
And, in an attempt to back up this bold statement, the Swedish automaker has released three videos showing the newcomer – which has been “preliminarily confirmed” for introduction to South Africa in the second quarter of 2018 – being subjected to a trio of brutal crash tests.
Euro NCAP has yet to evaluate the new XC60, so this footage comes direct from the automaker itself. But Volvo is clearly confident that its latest SUV will pass with flying colours, what with the three safest cars ever tested by Europe’s safety authority all coming from the Swedish stable.
As expected, the new XC60 will boast all manner of safety features, including steering assist, oncoming lane mitigation and blind spot assist. Volvo’s semi-autonomous driver assistance system (capable of taking care of steering, acceleration and braking “on well-marked roads up to 130 km/h”) will also be optionally available.
