Elation, frustration and everything in between. The first Monaco Grand Prix since 2019 proved to be a rather eventful Sunday afternoon for the grid’s young drivers as Max Verstappen won his first race in the principality.
Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz Jnr secured his first podium finish for the Italian team and Lando Norris continued his stupendous start to the season with a second third-placed finish from the opening five races.
The 23-year-old grabbed the lead of the drivers’ championship for the first time in his career, as seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton slumped to a lowly seventh-place finish.
Hamilton’s teammate Valtteri Bottas was hit with rotten luck as his only scheduled pitstop turned into the end of his race. The Finn’s race unravelled as the pit crew couldn’t remove a jammed wheel-nut during a tyre change as it became fixed fast with the wheel gun and remained stuck.
