What to listen to on lockdown? 7 automotive podcasts we recommend

Yearning for some automotive content while away from the computer or television; be it working in the garage, (finally!) finishing that DIY project you’ve been meaning to get to, cooking or exercising? Well, here’s our list of interesting podcasts (in addition to our own, which can be streamed via Soundcloud) relating to all things motoring, from casual banter and car reviews to interviews with some of the most influential Formula One drivers, to keep you entertained.

Car Chat

Hosted by automotive photographer, amateur racer and self-described car nut Sam Moores, Car Chat covers a range of topics relating to the motoring sphere. Duration of episodes differ, but most are around the 1 hour 30 minute length.

A bi-weekly podcast hosted by Adam Carolla, actor and former WWE wrestler Bill Goldberg and Matt “The Motorator” D’Andria, who is best known for his work on the documentary Winning: The Racing Life of Paul Newman. The US-based trio discusses new cars, the future of the industry and the performance aftermarket sphere, while offering automotive advice to listeners. Goldberg and Matt even implore listeners to spend some time working on their cars during lockdown. Episodes are on average one hour long.

Collecting Cars Podcast

Presenters Edward Lovett and Chris Harris doesn’t shy away from their (unfiltered) opinions. Always frank, Collecting Cars often provides listeners with a few laughs. With physical distancing being the order of the day to curb the spread of COVID-19, the hosts record the latest episode from the back of an Audi A8 L. Duration of episodes range from 45 min to 1 hour 30 minutes, with a special double-length episode with former British rally co-driver Nicky Grist.

DriveNation Podcast

New to the podcast scene (in fact, there are currently just three episodes … but quality over quantity, right?), the DriveNation podcast’s pilot episode includes a review of the much-anticipated new Land Rover Defender. For episode two, Porsche enthusiasts are treated to a 55-minute special on the 992-gen 911, while hosts Dan Prosser and Andrew Frankel discuss the “magic of the Nürburgring” in the third. Episodes span 40 min to one hour.

The DriveTribe Podcast

Dubbed as a “not-so-serious” round-up of automotive news, the DriveTrive team talks about everything – and we do mean everything – relating to cars; unconventional as some of the topics discussed may be, which includes reviews, first cars and motoring games to dogs in Range Rovers. Duration of episodes range from 30 to 55 minutes.

F1: Beyond the Grid

Although the future of the 2020 Grand Prix season may look grim, with some races cancelled and the majority postponed, Formula One fans can still get their weekly F1 fix by listening to F1: Beyond the Grid. Expect insight and anecdotes from F1 and in-depth, personal interviews with team bosses and current and former racing drivers. Guests include Mario Andretti, Kimi Räikkönen, Jenson Button and Rubens Barichello. In the latest episode, host Tom Clarkson interviews David Brabham, son of Jack Brabham. Episode stretch from 30 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Spike’s Car Radio

Billed as the “downloadable” version of comedian Jerry Seinfeld’s Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee television series. Hosted by former Seinfeld writer Spike Feresten, Spike’s Car Radio can be summed up in three words: cars, coffee and comedy. Guests include pro skateboarder Tony Hawk and actor Rob Corddry.
