After first unveiling this monster bakkie a couple of months back, Isuzu has now revealed a few more details and fresh images of the new KB Arctic Trucks AT35, available in both double-cab and extended-cab configurations.
Based on the KB (or D-Max in certain markets) bakkie, the AT35 has been extensively enhanced by Arctic Trucks, a company with a 25-year history in Iceland and Scandinavia as a developer of extreme 4×4 vehicles.
Although the familiar 2,5-litre turbo-diesel engine (with 120 kW and 400 N.m) remains, a number of significant chassis changes have been carried out by Arctic Trucks.
The suspension has been re-engineered with Fox Performance Series dampers, which Isuzu says helps deliver “increased mobility”. Special all-terrain, 35-inch Nokian Rotiiva tyres, meanwhile, wrap the 17-inch wheels and ensure a truly generous contact patch.
The AT35 accommodates these massive chunks of rubber thanks to significantly widened wheel-arches. The ride height, meanwhile, is some 125 mm loftier than the standard KB, which in turn improves approach, departure and break-over angles.
The off-road optional extras list includes a 27-LED square work light, skid-plates for enhanced under-body protection, and an ARB tyre inflator with inline gauge.
Although highly unlikely to be available in South Africa, Isuzu has released pricing for the UK market, with the range starting at £30 999 (about R583 000) for the extended-cab model and running through to £34 499 (around R649 000) for the double-cab auto.
