Aston Martin has pulled the wraps off the Vanquish Zagato concept ahead of its official debut at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.
The new concept is due to be shown off at Lake Como in Italy. Of course, should it receive the reception we expect it to, there’s every chance Aston will bolt together a few production examples to sell to particularly well-heeled customers.
As you’ll no doubt know, these two companies are no strangers to each other. In fact, the Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato concept is the fifth car to emerge from the British brand’s collaboration with Italian design-house Zagato, in a relationship that stretches back over five decades.
Developed and engineered at Aston Martin’s headquarters in Gaydon, the new concept’s bodywork is shaped entirely from carbon-fibre, with the split lines on the body reduced by the use of large one-piece panels.
New lighting features include Zagato-typical round tail-light reflectors that also incorporate the LED technology seen at the rear of the Vulcan track-only supercar.
The Vanquish Zagato concept features One-77-inspired wing mirrors and a retractable spoiler. And the roof, of course, boasts the famous double-bubble design, a Zagato signature since the early 1950s.
“Over the years, we have developed and refined our own design language and we have always gone that little bit further with our special series cars like CC-100, One-77 and Aston Martin Vulcan,” said Marek Reichman, Aston Martin executive vice president and chief creative officer.
“The Vanquish Zagato Concept shows how our two companies can come together and push the definition of Aston Martin design.”
But what’s happening under that shapely carbon-fibre body? Well, the automaker says the concept’s naturally aspirated V12 engine (lifted from the Vanquish, of course) has been uprated to 441 kW. We approve.
