If you thought the standard A8 L was just a little too short then Audi has created something that should suit your requirements. This one-off model of the German limousine has been given an increase in length and two extra doors for one special customer as a built-to-order product.
The A8 L stretches 6,36-metres long with a wheelbase of 4,22-metres (1,09-metres longer than the standard A8). It took Audi close to a year to develop this model that, despite it’s incredible length, will only cater for five passengers and a driver. Audi has admitted that it faced both safety and rigidity challenges in the development of this extended A8 L.
While making use of the Audi Space Frame the engineers extended the side sills and center tunnel using extruded aluminum sections which benefit’s the vehicle’s air routing. In addition to this the roof incorporates additional profiled tubes and cross-braces to increase the structural rigidity.
The interior of the luxury limousine has been given a 2,4-metres glass roof to enhance the sense of space and if patrons which for a more private journey they will be able to make use of the sun blinds attached to each passenger window. The premium electrically adjustable seats have been upholstered in velvet beige Valcona leather and are separated by a continuous centre console. The rear row receives an entertainment display and a cool box.
The 2 418 kg A8 L Extended will be powered by the 3,0-litre turbocharged petrol engine developing 228 kW and 400 N.m of torque allowing it to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 7,1 seconds until it reaches its limited speed of 250 km/h. Power is delivered to all four wheels via a eight-speed tiptronic transmission. Stopping power will be provided by the braking system from the high performance S8.
