The next-in-line of the BMW classics range to receive a tribute model is the famous 2002 Turbo. This is the BMW 2002 Hommage Concept, which was revealed at the 2016 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.
Head designer of BMW, Karim Habib, says that the design of the 2002 Hommage makes use of a striking and dynamic philosophy to help capture the image of the iconic little coupe. Having said that, the design is much more aggressive than the one found on the 1973 E20 2002 Turbo and not that many similarities can be seen at first glance.
The profile of the 2002 Hommage makes use of a very low stance, jagged panels and flared wheel arches painted with a new Spare Race Metal colour. We also see a set of bold 20-inch wheels with M Power calipers peeking through from the inside.
The rear features an intimidating set of quad-exhaust pipes beneath the thick bumper. Just above that is the BMW logo, affixed to the right of the licence plate, as seen on the original model, as well as a neat LED taillamp cluster.
Seeing as this is just a tribute, the 2002 Hommage doesn’t have any power stats or performance figures. And, needless to say, it sadly won’t ever reach the production line. But be sure to watch our track test of the next best thing, the BMW M2…
