Joining the likes of the similarly limited-edition Reventon, Veneno and Sesto Elemento, the new Centenario has been let into the wild to celebrate a full century since the birth of tractor and supercar titan, Ferruccio Lamborghini. The Centenario is a showcase that displays the extreme design and engineering capabilities of the Italian manufacturer.
As expected, this new special edition is futuristic and striking with an intention to display a new direction of design for future models to come, much like the Reventon did. Fins, spoilers, air intakes and splitters are no stranger to this model as they provide a functional contribution to the downforce department. Airflow is also aided by the minimal 1 143 m height. The Centenario’s focus around the rear consists of an aggressive diffuser, active rear spoiler, triple tailpipe extension and LED taillamp design. The finishing touches are aided by the 20-inch front and 21-inch rear aliminium forged wheels.
Interior of the Centenario has been made to be bespoke to each of the 40 customers’ preferences but as standard it will make use of a pair of carbon fibre sports seats upholstered in Alcantara. This material is also used for most of the interior. For infotainment purposes the Centenario makes use of a 10,1-inch touchscreen equipped with MirrorLink and a telemetry program.
The Centenario will make use of Lamborghini’s V12 engine which will deliver 566 kW making it the brands most powerful engine to date. With this and its independent shifting rod transmission it will be able to achieve a 0-100 km/h time of 2,8 seconds, a 0-300 km/h time of 23,5 seconds and a top speed of 350 km/h. To keep this power tamed the structure of this new model makes use of a carbon fiber monocoque giving it an overall dry-weight of 1 520 kg. Along with this it receives permanent all-wheel drive with four wheel with rear-wheel steering.
The 20 Coupes and 20 Roadsters that are to be produced have already been sold out for R30 000 000 (before tax) a pop to various collectors and enthusiasts. It’s also worth noting that Turn 10’s Forza Motorsport series has given the Centenario the auspicious honour of being the cover car for the next segment of its series (Most likey Forza Horizon 3) set to be revealed at E3 this year.
