LOCAL PRICING: McLaren 570S and 540C

McLaren Automotive has announced South African pricing for the new McLaren Sports Series models.

570S
Unveiled at the New York International Auto Show in early April, the 570S shares its DNA with the models in McLaren’s Super Series (650S and 675 LT), including a lightweight carbon fibre chassis and a (in this instance, detuned) mid-mounted 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine. As its name suggests, the engine is good for 570 PS (pferdestarcke) or 420 kW.

The 570S will sell for R3 150 000. That puts it in the same territory as the car it’s aimed at, namely the 412 kW Porsche 911 Turbo S that retails for a slightly cheaper base price of R2 890 000 (though similarly specced, the cars should be closer in price).

540C
Touted by McLaren as their “most attainable McLaren yet”, we first saw this model at the Shanghai show later in the same month. It shares the same body and engine as the 570S, but in this guise the 3,8 turbo V8 puts 540 PS or 397 kW.

The 540C will cost R2 800 000 and is aimed at the 383 kW Porsche 911 Turbo (R2 439 000).

McLaren dealerships in SA are already taking orders and some 15 cars have already been sold, with delivery expected in Q1 2016.
