Mercedes-AMG has released teaser images of an even hotter version of the GT. And it’s called (with apologies to the folks at Nissan) the GT R.
The Mercedes-AMG GT R is set to be positioned above the GT S, but below any future Black Series models.
The teaser images suggest that the GT R will boast a hefty rear wing and a more aggressive front bumper. We can also expect this in-your-face styling to extend to the rear diffuser, while the roof and side-mirror caps look to have been fashioned from carbon-fibre.
Mercedes-Benz makes no mention of powertrain upgrades, but the twin-turbocharged 4,0-litre V8 will undoubtedly have been suitably massaged in this new application. In fact, the numberplate in one of the teaser images suggests the output could stand as high as 585 hp, which converts to 436 kW (up on the 375 kW produced by the GT S).
This power hike, in combination with a strict weight-loss programme, will certainly see the Mercedes-AMG GT R improve upon its lesser sibling’s 3,8-second sprint to 100 km/h.
The vehicle is scheduled to be fully revealed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on June 24. Mercedes-AMG has also released a short teaser video, which you can view below…
