The new Volkswagen crossover scheduled to launch in 2017 will bear a name chosen by the German brand’s North American division.
The new seven-seater, which will draw inspiration from the automaker’s CrossBlue concept, will be built at Volkswagen’s factory in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Hinrich Woebcken, CEO of Volkswagen North America, told Automotive News that the new crossover will have a “bullish, much easier-to-pronounce, American-style name”.
The moniker will likely be unique to the US market, with Woebcken hinting that it won’t start with a “T”, like its Tiguan and Touareg crossover siblings.
“Two or three years ago, it would’ve been a no-go that the region decides an individual name,” Woebcken said. “This is already an early sign that Wolfsburg is willing to let go.”
