Meet the new Peugeot Rifter, which is based on the same platform as the new Citro?n Berlingo and fresh-faced Opel Combo Life.
The new Rifter MPV will be offered in five- and seven-seat configuration. Although it’s technically a commercial vehicle underneath, the Rifter adopts design traits seen in the brand?s SUV line-up, borrowing cues such as LED headlamps, shortened overhangs, increased ride height and plastic cladding.
The cabin features the so-called Peugeot i-Cockpit layout, which includes a compact steering wheel, an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a set of gauges with chrome-plated surrounds.
A GT Line trim level will also be offered, adding a bunch of onyx black detailing to the exterior and a set of 17-inch Aoraki alloy wheels, shod with Michelin Latitiude Tour tyres.
The Rifter runs on the PSA Group’s EMP2 platform, with “Pseudo MacPherson” suspension up front and a cross beam at the rear. The Rifter can be optionally fitted with a Dangel four-wheel-drive system.
Engine options for the new Rifter include the familiar 1,2 PureTech mill (in two states of tune) and the 1,5 BlueHDi, (in 75, 100 and 130 configuration). Flagship models are fitted with the EAT8 torque-converter transmission.
No word yet on whether the Rifter will be offered in South Africa.
