It is unclear if BMW will ever build a full M7 performance sedan, but that hasn’t kept well-known and respectable tuner Alpina from developing their own version.
Called the Alpina B7 xDrive, it is, as the name suggest, fitted with BMW’s all-wheel drive system. Under the bonnet is a further development of BMW’s 4,4-litre, V8 twin-turbo engine developing 447 kW and 800 N.m. That is a significant increase compared to the standard 750i’s (fitted with the same base engine) which develops 330 kW and 650 N.m.
However, to achieve these figures, several updates have been made to the engine. These include the air intake, intercooler, turbocharging and even changes to the pistons and exhaust system.
Alpina claims a very respectable 3,6 seconds time for the dash to 97 km/h, and a top speed of 311 km/h.
It is fascinating how these figures were until recently associated with super cars, and today a tuned 7-Series can achieve similar times.
