Volkswagen has revealed the first images of the facelifted Amarok’s interior, which includes an optional colour multifunction display.
Earlier this month, the German automaker took the wraps off the facelifted bakkie, while also revealing the addition of a 165 kW 3,0-litre V6 turbodiesel powertrain to the range.
With this 550 N.m engine fitted, the updated Amarok sees off the sprint from standstill to 100 km/h in a claimed 7,9 seconds.
On certain models, the updated cabin houses new electrically adjustable seats for the driver and front passenger. VW says these 14-way adjustable seats – which feature nappa leather trim, contrasting stitching, and heating – have been awarded the seal of approval by the Healthy Back Campaign.
Another new feature is the redesigned instrument panel, which now concentrates on sharper horizontal and vertical lines rather than softer contours. The top-of-the-range model features a colour 3D display between the instruments, as well as new paddle shifters on the steering wheel. The rear-view mirror, meanwhile, is now frameless.
At the top of the centre console sits the infotainment system, which now comes with something VW calls digital voice enhancement. This electric voice amplification system amplifies voice signals in the cabin so that the driver no longer has to, for instance, turn to face the back-seat passengers when speaking. Passengers in the rear can therefore hear the driver’s voice amplified by the rear speakers.
The automaker has revealed that the range-topping Amarok – complete with V6, four-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission – will be priced from €46 525 (some R816 846 at today’s exchange rate) when it goes on sale in Germany in September 2016.
As it stands, Volkswagen South Africa has yet to confirm whether the V6 engine option will be available on our shores when the facelift arrives in the second half of 2017, but it’s almost certain it will be.
