Audi promises seven ‘completely new SUV variants’ in 2019

By: CAR magazine

Audi has announced plans to present seven “completely new SUV variants without predecessors” over the remainder of 2019.

The Ingolstadt-based firm made the announcement at its annual general meeting, where it also revealed its intention to soon flood the market with “more than 20 [new or updated] models”, including the facelifted A4.

A “new, especially luxurious and prestigious derivative” of its flagship A8 sedan along with a raft of plug-in hybrid derivatives in the A6, A7 and A8 series, meanwhile, are also on the cards.

And the SUVs? Well, two will be what Audi describes as “particularly sporty versions” of its Q8 (those would be the long-rumoured SQ8 and RS Q8, then), while Sportback versions of the Q3 and all-electric E-tron have also been confirmed.

The identities of the remaining three new SUV variants, however, have yet to be revealed. It’s worth keeping in mind, though, that Audi recently unwrapped its new plug-in hybrid Q5 55 TFSI e quattro, while also giving many S-badged models in its Audi Sport range the TDI treatment (for Europe, at least). Perhaps the as-yet-unannounced will follow a similar theme…
