BMW M boss promises new M3 will be ‘gorgeous’ and ‘drive fantastic’

The head of BMW’s M division says the new M3 will be “gorgeous”, adding the high-performance sedan “drives fantastic”.

Speaking to BMW Blog, M CEO Markus Flasch predictably would disclose very little about the upcoming M3, but did say it had already been shown to key parties.

“It drives fantastic; I’ve driven the car and we’ve already shown it to some of our dealers and investors,” Flasch said.

“Everybody who’s seen it is fascinated and thrilled; the car is going to be gorgeous,” he told the publication.

Like the upcoming G82-generation M4 (as well as the standard 4 Series), Munich’s new apex M-badged midsize sedan is expected to feature the automaker’s massive new grille design.

An earlier report claimed large-scale production of the new G80-gen M3 would commence in November 2020, with deliveries for initial markets likely starting only in the second quarter of 2021.

Late in 2019, Flasch confirmed manual versions of the new M3 would be offered in rear-wheel-drive configuration only, while all-paw variants (including the flagship Competition derivatives) would employ a torque-converter automatic transmission as standard.
