A fresh report out of the United Kingdom claims Jeep will launch an “ultra compact” SUV in 2022 to rival the Suzuki Jimny.

According to Auto Express, the newcomer will slot in below the Renegade, measuring around four metres nose to tail.

Marco Pigozzi, Jeep’s European head of brand marketing, promised the publication the new model would be highly capable off-road while still offering strong everyday practicality.

“The car will be able to be used as a bad-ass Jeep, but it has also been designed to be used every day,” he said.

Auto Express further speculated the new model could be underpinned by a platform from the PSA Group under Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ proposed merger with the French firm. In addition, the report suggested the baby SUV could be offered with an all-electric powertrain.

At the start of 2018, Jeep CEO Mike Manley revealed FCA was looking “very closely” at the option of building a baby SUV.
