Mitsubishi Pajero to be reborn on Nissan Patrol platform – report

A fresh report out of Australia claims the Mitsubishi Pajero is likely to be reborn on a platform shared with the next-generation Nissan Patrol.

According to CarsGuide, the Pajero nameplate’s future hinges on platform-sharing within the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance.

In April 2019, Mitsubishi announced the Pajero would be discontinued in Japan, launching a “Final Edition” model to see off the 37-year-old badge. In August, the automaker followed suit in Europe and the United Kingdom, although the fourth-generation model soldiered on in a handful of markets, including South Africa.

John Signoriello, the head of Mitsubishi in Australia, told the publication he didn’t have much to share about the future of the Pajero badge.

“At this stage, we haven’t been told anything; we just keep doing what we do,” he said.

“I can’t divulge what our product plan is going forward; I wish I could,” Signoriello added. “You never know what the Alliance could bring. That’s the beauty of product and platform sharing within the Alliance. You don’t know.

“It’s always got to be based on a business case. Can we come up with a business case in the end to justify it? The Alliance will determine whether there are other platforms to be shared.”
