Volkswagen Golf 8: CEO ‘fighting hard’ to bring launch forward…

Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess says the German firm is “fighting hard” to bring forward the launch of the Golf 8, saying he has set a deadline for deliveries to start in initial markets before the end of 2019.

An earlier report quoted Jürgen Stackmann, who heads up sales, marketing and after sales at VW’s passenger vehicle brand, as saying sales of the eighth-generation Golf were likely to start in Germany in the ninth calendar week of 2020 (that’s late in February). But Diess is keen for the launch to be brought forward.

“Currently we are fighting hard with the ramp-up,” Diess said at an internal meeting, according to Automotive News Europe.

“We will meet our deadline and deliver the first vehicles at the end of this year,” he added.

The Golf 8 is expected to be revealed in October, with production likely to commence at the end of the third quarter of the year. Of course, as we’ve already reported, VW’s engineers are dealing with a number of software glitches that derailed initial plans to reveal the new Golf in Frankfurt in September.

In May 2019, Volkswagen confirmed the new Golf 8 range would feature a pair of EA211 Evo engines, both featuring 48V mild-hybrid technology.
