As part of BMW’s refreshed X3 and X4 line-up due in South Africa later this year, the Bavarian carmaker has announced changes to its flagship X3 M and X4 M performance models as well. Peak torque from the X3 M and X4 M’s 3,0-litre twin-turbo petrol motor has increased by 50 N.m to 650 N.m, due to the use of a 3D-printed cylinder head core and a forged crankshaft.
Peak power remains at 375 kW from the s58’S in-line six-cylinder engine (which also powers the M3 and M4) and BMW says the 0-100 km/h sprint time has improved by 0,3 seconds for a claimed time of 3,8 seconds.
Top speed remains at 250 km/h, however it can be raised to 285 km/h by ticking the optional M Driver’s Package. The performance SUV duo ride on a stiffer suspension compared to the normal models in the range.
In terms of rubber, there are 21-inch wheels with mixed tyres in 255/40 ZR21 at the front and 265/40 ZR21 at the rear offered. One new feature is the M forged wheel 892M Star Spoke in Jet Black burnished, which saves two kilograms per wheel says BMW.
Step inside and BMW has opted to include switchgear from the current M3 and M4 models, specifically the newly designed control island on the centre console includes two new buttons in addition to the specific M gear selector with Drivelogic rocker switch, the BMW Controller and the red engine start button.
From the outside, you’ll notice a larger kidney grille, sharper-looking LED headlights and taillights designs and more angular front end. Pricing for the models will be announced at a later stage.
