As Porsche unveiled its latest 992-generation 911 sportscar at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, the Stuttgart-based automaker also lifted the wraps off another 911. Meet the track-only GT2 RS Clubsport.
Based on the previous generation (991.2) GT2 RS, this Clubsport version employs the same 3,8-litre flat-six twin-turbo engine found in its road-legal stablemate. This means 515 kW and 750 N.m of torque is sent to the 310 mm wide rear wheels. The seven-speed dual-clutch transmission is operated via paddle-shifters, mounted behind a GT3 R carbon-fibre steering wheel.
Built for racing, a six-point safety harness and roll cage not only provide safety, but add to the occasion. And air-conditioning ensures “optimal cooling of the interior”, the Zuffenhausen-based brand says.
This track-only model weighs 1 390 kg (that’s 80 kg less than the production model on which it is based) and is equipped with only one racing bucket seat. To provide drivers with extra confidence, safety systems such as Porsche Stability Management (PSM) and ABS can be adjusted individually or switched off entirely.
To bring this Porsche to standstill, six-piston aluminium monobloc racing callipers, with internally ventilated and grooved 390 mm brakes, are fitted. At the rear, four-piston callipers and 380 mm items can be found.
According Frank-Steffen Walliser, vice president motorsport and GT cars at Porsche, customers will not only be able to race the GT2 RS Clubsport on track days but at international motor racing events, too.
Just 200 units of the GT2 RS Clubsport will be produced, each costing €405 000 (that’s around R6 305 500 at the current exchange rate).
