The Ford GT is set to make a return at Le Mans this year and take on the likes of Porsche, Ferrari, Aston Martin and Chevrolet. It hopes to have a promising start after claiming a class win at this year’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at Mazda Laguna Seca and second place at the WEC six hours of Spa Francorchamps. Ford Chip Ganassi Racing will be running four cars on the 24 hour race on the 18th and 19th of June.
The brand seems set on replicating the moments of the initial GT40’s success fifty years ago, partially by placing its faith in the following drivers:
#66 – Billy Johnson (US), Stefan Mücke (GER), Olivier Pla (FRA)
#67 – Marino Franchitti (GB), Andy Priaulx (GB), Harry Tincknell (GB)
#68 – Sébastien Bourdais (FRA), Joey Hand (US), Dirk Müller (GER)
#69 – Ryan Briscoe (AUS), Scott Dixon (NZ), Richard Westbrook (GB)
Fans of the Forza Motorsport series will also be glad to know that the #66 Ford Chip Ganassi Racing GT Race Car will be added to the current line-up as a free download. The codes for this model will be sent out to players around the world from today (June 7), but due to the large player-base, this roll-out could take up to a week.
The road-going Ford GT had the honour of being the cover car for the sixth installment of Forza Motorsport and has been a playable vehicle since the title’s launch last year. Customers are expected to receive their real-life GTs by the end of this year.
