The curse of Monaco remains with title hopeful and Monagesque Charles Leclerc who once again had a sure victory pulled from under the rug in his home race. Fortunately the Ferrari driver managed to finish the race in this previous outing behind third podium finisher Max Verstappen who celebrated a triumphant weekend as teammate Sergio Pérez reigned supreme over Carlos Sainz.
The Ferrari F1-75 has seemed to reel some performance deficit against the well rounded Red Bull RB18 which should mean that we once again get to enjoy tight competition between the two championship protagonists. Verstappen who now leads the drivers’ championship will want to complete this outing at the 2022 Azerbaijan Grand Prix and settle ‘unfinished business’ after a dominant display in last year’s race ended with a harrowing puncture along the 2,2 km high speed main straight and ultimately a retirement. The Dutchman only holds a 9 point margin over Scuderia’s Leclerc while RBR are 36 points clear of the Scarlet Red team.
Here is a selection of 5 dramatic moments from previous Grand Prix’ in the former Soviet country.
The 2022 Azerbaijan Grand Prix will take place over 51 laps of the 6 km circuit this Sunday with some novel additions to the grid. This includes Alfa Romeo’s tricolore livery which will boasts a dominant shade of Montreal Green which is an ode to the freshly launched Tonale model, one that the Italian automaker hope will reinvigorate sales. Pierre Gasly will also look to finish this race Sunday strong after an impressive display of prowess last season saw him finish on the podium. Tune in at 13:00 South African local time on Sunday to catch all of the action in the next chapter of this exciting season.
