Unlike the 2010 documentary ‘Senna’, which drew on real-life interviews with F1 insiders, drivers, and loved ones, the Netflix adaptation is a dramatised mini-series designed to take viewers inside Senna’s personal journey. Through a series of episodes, ‘Senna’ is expected to paint a portrait of the driver that goes beyond the race track, exploring his struggles, dreams, and the relentless pursuit that fuelled his rise through the racing categories. The series follows Senna’s story from his early days in Brazil’s karting circuits to his ambitious move to Europe, where he broke into the competitive world of single-seater racing and ultimately earned a place in Formula 1.
Brazilian actor Gabriel Leone steps into the role of Ayrton Senna, while Pâmela Tomé will portray his girlfriend, Xuxa. This aspect of the series is sure to bring to light one of the driver’s most personal relationships. Meanwhile, fans can expect a portrayal of his legendary rivalry with French driver Alain Prost, played by Matt Mella, as well as Patrick Kennedy’s depiction of Ron Dennis, the McLaren team principal who played a pivotal role in Senna’s career.
Ayrton Senna’s racing legacy is highlighted by three F1 World Championships and some of the most memorable performances in F1 history. Known for his unmatched skill in rainy conditions and electrifying pole laps, Senna redefined what it meant to push the limits of racing. His intense rivalry with Prost captivated fans and solidified his reputation as one of the fiercest competitors on the track. Sadly, Senna’s life was cut short on 1 May 1994 in a tragic accident at the San Marino Grand Prix, but his passion and spirit remain deeply woven into the fabric of Formula 1.
