Formula E has welcomed several new manufacturers to the electric championship recently, and has now revealed an all-new car for the 2018/2019 season.
There’s not yet much information available regarding the new car’s specifications, but from what we can tell it looks a lot more serious than the model it succeeds.
The most interesting improvement is the uprated battery capacity, which will allow teams to complete a full race in a single car rather than swapping to a second unit halfway through. It also appears that the protective “halo” structure has been adopted to protect drivers from possible head injuries.
“When we started Formula E, our goal was to break the mould and challenge the status quo – bringing a revolution to motorsport. This next-generation car represents that revolution,” Formula E Founder and CEO Alejandro Agag said, according to motorsport.com.
“The cars will be faster and will have almost double the amount of energy storage capacity and double the range, demonstrating the continuous evolution of battery technology.
“Together with the FIA, we’ve achieved a great milestone with the introduction of this car and I can’t wait to see it on track,” he added.
An official reveal of the new car will take place on March 6, 2018.
