Lynk & Co, the brand owned by Geely and closely related to Volvo, has partnered with Cyan Racing (formerly known as Polestar Racing), the reigning world champion of touring car racing, to enter the FIA’s WTCR with a new Lynk & Co 03 TCR race car in 2019.
The automaker will face the likes of Audi, Alfa Romeo, Honda, Hyundai, Peugeot, Seat and Volkswagen in WTCR.
In addition, Lynk & Co has announced a road-going model (based on a 368 kW concept) will complement the racecar and be partly developed by Cyan Racing. The automaker says this will be the “first step towards an extended performance offering”.
Piloting one of the racecars in next year’s championship will be previous winner Thed Björk.
“To once again aim for the world title when starting my seventh season with Cyan Racing is a dream coming true. Especially combined with this groundbreaking co-operation with Lynk & Co that will include the development of a high-performance concept road car is nothing less than amazing,” Björk stated at the official unveiling at Fuji Raceway in Japan.
