With Gymkhana 10 just around the corner, Ken Block needs an outrageous new drift car. And this time he has opted for a classic 1977 Ford F-150, but (naturally) with a couple of extreme modifications. It’s been fittingly named the “Hoonitruck”.
The crazy bakkie has been fitted with a twin-turbo 3,5-litre V6 (yes, from a Ford GT) developed by Ford Performance and Roush Yates. The peak outputs stand at a whopping 682 kW and 952 N.m, sent to all four wheels through a Sadev six-speed gearbox.
Of course, the power isn’t the only extreme thing about the vehicle. The Hoonitruck’s mass has been significantly lowered thanks to its hand-shaped military grade aluminium body and chassis engineered by Detroit Speed Engineering.
To help it in its sideways endeavours, the Hoonitruck has been fitted with a set of Toyo Proxes ST tyres wrapped round custom 20-inch fifteen52 Turbomatic HD wheels.
The Hoonitruck will be on display at SEMA after which it will be put into action in Gymkhana 10, which will debut on YouTube on 17 December.
“This project has been in the works for about two years I’m beyond pleased with how it turned out; it’s simply one of the most badass and unique vehicles I’ve seen in a long time and I think it complements my Hoonicorn perfectly,” said Block.
“It’s also crazy to be throwing something around that’s this size when doing Gymkhana-style driving. But, it looks absolutely wild on camera, and that was our goal from the start. I can’t wait for the fans to be able to see it in action … I think they’re gonna love it!”
