Maserati, the iconic Italian brand with motorsport rooted deep within its genes, boasts the spirit of pure competition in its DNA. This tradition will continue considering Maserati will become the first Italian automaker to compete in Formula E after confirming its driver lineup for Season 9 of the championship.
The new Maserati team has announced Maximilian Guenther and Edoardo Mortara as drivers for their first Formula E world championship season in 2023. Joining Maserati is a “privilege,” said Mortara, who won four E-Prix this year with Venturi. “As a half-Italian, it’s a privilege and a pleasure to be joining this group, I cannot wait to actually start racing in Mexico,” Mortara said. Guenther has crossed paths with Mortara as far back as 2016 and sees the pair’s analytical approach as a collective strength.
The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship provides Maserati with a perfect platform to showcase the unprecedented brand racing heritage and the new Gen3 car in an environment where high performance and innovation powerfully co-exist. Maserati will debut on the grid from Season 9 with the new Gen3, the fastest, lightest, most powerful Formula E racing car ever. The new silent model is the world’s most efficient racing car featuring a series of industry-leading design, production and technological innovations.
Maserati’s driver announcement was the last piece of the puzzle for the 2023 Formula E driver lineup with McLaren yet to announce who will be competing for them next year.
Davide Grasso, the CEO of Maserati, commented “The two new drivers will continue the Maserati tradition”, showing much enthusiasm as he puts his trust in the young generation that will take the brand’s name to the next level while continuing the brand history and legacy.

The 2023 Formula E championship will be the 9th running of the series and the third since it was granted official status as a world championship by the FIA.
