Mini’s maiden voyage up Knysna’s Simola Hillclimb has been announced with a John Cooper Works, entered in the A1 Category set to be driven by Bradleigh Boshoff up the strip.

BMW Group South Africa has confirmed three entries in the Simola Hillclimb this year. The 15th running of the event will take place from 1-4 May 2025 just outside of Knysna. BMW added that it is the perfect place to continue its motorsport endeavours since the annual Hillclimb remains a marquee attraction on South Africa’s motorsport calendar, drawing drivers and fans from across the globe.

For 2025, BMW’s local arm will compete in the competitive “King of the Hill” shootout for standard production and road-going vehicles on Saturday. Heading the lineup is a BMW M4 Competition in the A4 Category, backed by BMW Group South Africa’s ZA Hub and piloted by driving instructor and professional racing driver Cristiano Verolini.
Joining it is the BMW M2 and carrying the colours of MUA and Compass Insure. Behind the wheel is 2023 BMW M2 Cup Champion Leyton Fourie, who currently races in the German ADAC GT Masters series in a BMW M4 GT3 EVO. Fourie is set to compete in the A3 Category. Rounding off the trio is a Mini John Cooper Works, entering the A1 Category. Sponsored by BP Ultimate and Castrol and driven by Bradleigh Boshoff. This entry marks Mini’s debut in the King of the Hill showdown.

BMW added that the squad’s efforts will be supported by Sparco, providing racewear and team gear, while Akrapovič contributes with its high-performance exhaust systems.
