The Lamborghini Urus which achieved the record, climbed the 156-turn mountain road and managed it 17 seconds faster than the previous title holder – the Bentley Bentayga.
The Urus may have deviated from the outright insanity of their purpose built supercars as some purists may believe, but that doesn’t make it a slouch. The Raging Bull decided to demonstrate their Lamborghini Urus in all of its awe during the previous running of the Pikes Peak hillclimb.

In the process; the SUV, which shares underpinnings with Audi and Volkswagen Group products, managed to climb the high altitude mountain road in 10 minutes and 32,064 seconds. Completing the 20 km stretch of American tarmac means that it averaged around 120 km/h throughout the whole course, which by road car standards is rapid. To add a cherry on top of their celebratory cake, the new Lamborghini Urus clinched the title from the Bentley Bentayga – a model that also shares the Volkswagen Group MLB platform. The British SUV held the title from 2018.

“The decision to test ourselves at Pikes Peak reflects the Lamborghini spirit of ‘expect the unexpected’ and demonstrates the outstanding performance of the new Urus model to be presented shortly,” said Lamborghini Chief Technical Officer Rouven Mohr.
Other than a modified interior with a roll cage, a racing seat coupled to a six-point harness, and a fire extinguishing system – the new Lamborghini Urus was standard. Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tyres provided the grip of the twin-turbocharged V8. The tyre maker’s own test driver; Simone Faggioli, piloted the SUV up the mountain.
The new Lamborghini Urus will debut in August in accordance with the automakers plan to premier two versions of the SUV and a Huracan derivative during the month.
