Many gaming enthusiasts dream of becoming professional racers, but most likely stick to digital circuits. Now, however, Forza Motorsport and Porsche have partnered in a bid to give one game the chance to participate in the German brand’s Master Cup Training.
Smiilar to the GT Academy put together by Gran Turismo and Nissan, the 911 GT3 RS Challenge will comprise five levels. The first is split into two competitions; a qualifying phase from 29 July to 7 August and a playoff on 11 and 12 August. Both will take place online via Forza Motorsport 7. Of course, these events have to be completed using the 2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
Just 48 contestants will make it through the qualifying phase. Thereafter, the contestants will split into four groups of 12. Each group will compete in a free-for-all race, with the top six in each group carried through to the next day, where they will be split into two groups of 12. The top four of each group will then progress to level two.
Making it through to level two will win you a seat at the live final event at Gamescom, Cologne on 22 August. Those who qualified in the previous level will battle it out in a digital racing tournament, once again, through Forza Motorsport 7. The eight racers will once again race in a free-for-all, with the top four heading on to level four, where the real fun begins.
Making it through to the fourth level will see contestants gaining professional driver training in Porsche Leipzig, Germany, before moving on to another training session at Hungaroring, Hungary. Here, the four drivers will use the skills they’ve developed to complete a Porsche cup simulator for the final time trial. The driver with the fastest lap will take home the prize and reach the fifth level, where he or she will take part in the Porsche Master Cup Training in Barcelona.
An exciting and challenging event indeed, but South African gamers won’t be happy to learn that the event is exclusive to those based in Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, Portugal, Russia, Spain and Switzerland…
