We’ve been seeing spy pics of a hotter Porsche 718 Cayman which many were assuming to be a GT4 model. It turns out these speculations were correct but, Porsche has decided to reveal the track-only variant first in the guise of the 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport. At this point a road-going model is still yet to be confirmed.
The 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport takes the standard car’s chassis to the next level and offers an engine not available in the current range. To give it the track day demeanour it also gets a comprehensive aerodynamic package.
Both the front and rear MacPherson struts can have their height, camber and track adjusted. This complements a set of forged suspension links and three-way shock absorbers and adjustable anti-roll bars. Handling is further improved by a set of one-piece light alloy forged wheel and aluminium mono-bloc six-piston front and four-piston rear racing calipers with 380 mm ventilated brake disks.
Powering the 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport is a 3,8-litre flat six engine sourced from the previous model with a power output of 313 kW and 425 N.m of torque. This is fitted to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission which sends power to the rear wheels. A reinforced dual mass flywheel and diff-lock has been added to the drivetrain as well.
Giving the 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport its on-track appearance is a lightweight aluminium-steel composite construction with a fixed rear wing. Porsche boasts that some of the parts are made of natural-fibre. The single-seater cabin features a welded-in roll cage, Recaro race bucket seat and various other accredited safety features. The total weight of the race car comes in at a claimed 1 320 kg.
The 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport is available to order with deliveries set to take place at the beginning of February this year.
