It’s no secret that current-generation console games have been selling for astronomical prices, which is why a lot of gamers have been forced to be as economical as possible. Indeed, plenty of sacrifices have to be made by many of us when we wish to purchase our favourite racing/driving games, some of which have been disappointing. For just seven days, however, the Xbox Live store will be having a mega-sale which gives you to opportunity to purchase your favourite games at a steal. Here’s a list of what’s available:
Project Cars – GOTY Edition (And Digital Edition)
The crowd-funded Project Cars took the gaming world by storm last year when it released its highly interactive simulation, tested and praised by real racing drivers and eSports pros. In this experience, you’ll have access to a sandbox career mode, an impressive track roster, ground-breaking dynamic time of day & weather system as well as an extremely interactive tuning system & pit stop functionality.
If you’ve already purchased Forza Motorsport 6, this may be a bit redundant, but if simulations are your thing, this game won’t disappoint. The GOTY edition comes packed with loads of extra content but is vastly more expensive than the Digital Edition.
As far as rally games are concerned, DiRT is unprecedented. From the team that brought you the Colin McRae Rally series in the 90s, DiRT positions itself as the most thrilling and immersive rally experience in the gaming world. Developers road-tested over 80 million miles of snow, ice, tarmac and dirt in a variety of weather types to simulate the perfect experience. You’ll be able to tackle these environments in officially licenced WRC cars in both single- and multiplayer modes.
As far as sandbox racing games are concerned, Trackmania Turbo is the ultimate destination. With a variety of four environments, four gameplay modes and 200 unique tracks, this wild arcade stunt game will keep you occupied for months, if not years. And with modes such as the double driver coop and the trackbuilder it’ll make for a great party game among you and your friends. It also has a very interactive multiplayer mode in which you can challenge gamers all around the world as you represent your home country.
If you’re more of the purist racing gamer then avoid Trackmania because the physics are highly unrealistic and the gameplay is fast paced and requires quick reaction times.
This is for diehard Formula 1 fans who happen to own a console because these games are rarely ever good. F1 2015, however, is one of the better iterations from EA and it’s the only game series in which you can use a full grid of licenced Formula One cars. The fact that this only uses the 2014 season campaign, though, makes it outdated. The discount on this is huge but admittedly there are better racing games out there so tread lightly with this one.
Add-Ons
If you currently own Forza Horizon 2, Forza Motorsport 6 or The Crew, the following add-ons are available at a discount as well:
- Forza Horizon 2 Fast & Furious Car Pack
- Forza Horizon 2 Furious 7 Car Pack
- Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious Digital Edition
- Forza Motorsport 6 Mobile 1 Car Pack
- Forza Motorsport 6 VIP
- The Crew Season Pass
- The Crew Wild Run Expansion
Other Games…
GTA V and Sleeping Dogs aren’t exactly racing games but they both have driving physics that make it worth a play for car fans.
Rockstar’s fifth edition of the Grand Theft Auto franchise (excluding the spin-offs) was the most successful entertainment product with sales figures reaching an astonishing $800-million (R8-billion at the time of its release in October 2013) in just 24 hours after its release. Once you start playing the game you begin to understand its success with an entertaining and wild storyline, breathtaking graphics and an entertaining and cultural roster of customisable cars. The GTA world caters for the car community as it boasts a large drivable map with varying surface and weather conditions.
Sleeping Dogs: The Definitive Edition
Developed by Square Enix and United Front, this action-packed game set in Hong Kong didn’t see the success it deserved. With a rich storyline and an entertaining selection of cars you’ll be able to navigate your way through the Triad rankings through the eyes of undercover detective Wei Shen as you attempt to take down the system. The culture of Hong Kong driving and street culture is evident in this setting and leaves you wanting more every time you play.
The sale will be on from the 5th to the 11th of July for Xbox Live and Gold members.
