VUHL has built up some experience developing road-legal track cars since releasing the original 05. So now the Mexican automaker has refined its lightweight track toy … and the result is this, the 05RR.
Based on the same carbon-aluminium monocoque chassis as the 05, the 05RR has been enhanced in many ways. The 2,3-litre four-cylinder Ford EcoBoost engine, for example, gains output increases of 86 kW and 100 N.m, which push its totals to 287 kW and 500 N.m of torque.
With an overall mass of just 660 kg (thanks to a 65 kg weight reduction), the 05RR boasts a power-to-weight ratio of 492 kW per tonne, giving it a claimed 0-100 km/h time of 2,7 seconds and a top speed of 255 km/h.
To improved handling, the 05RR also features a 50 mm lower centre of gravity thanks to the clever repositioning of the powertrain. The sequential gearbox, limited slip differential and suspension setup remain the same. VUHL, however, will set the suspension to the preferences of the owner and provide slick tyres, should they be required.
Carbon wheels and a large single-plane rear wing have also been added. In addition, minor changes have been made to the cabin to make the 05RR feel more driver-focused.
The 05RR was first previewed at the 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed as a concept. This production model is now available via dealerships in Europe and the Americas (including, of course, the brand’s home country, Mexico).
