Polyphony Digital has just confirmed that the much anticipated installment of the Gran Turismo franchise, GT Sport, will be made available to Playstation users on 18 November. This is the first game the franchise will be releasing on Playstation 4.
The cars
GT Sport will feature up to 140 vehicles, including both road-going and competition cars. The Vision GT models from Gran Turismo 6 will also be featured in the game, as will a few original examples exclusive only to the GT franchise, such as the Toyota FT-1 Vision Gran Turismo and the Subaru WRX Gr.3, which have been designed by Polyphony to meet FIA specifications.
The tracks
Players will be able to race about 19 different tracks with 27 various layouts based on real-life circuits and in-house designs; one of which includes the Tokyo Expressway, which will debut in GT Sport.
The simulation
The physics of GT Sport run off an entirely new engine to suit the Playstation 4. As a result, Polyphony Digital has assured that despite being a simulator, the game will be quite manageable, meaning that all ages will be able to enjoy it. To help polish its players as drivers, the game will also include tutorial modes such as beginner’s school, which teaches the basics of braking and cornering.
The campaign
A first for the world of simulation motorsport is the joint venture between the FIA and Gran Turismo. Through this Polyphony has developed a driver points system that takes a player’s skill and behavior into consideration. These points will determine who you race against in the online world.
This relates to the FIA Gran Turismo championships; two certified FIA events that will be running online consisting of the Nations Cup, in which players will represent their countries, and the Manufacturer Fan Cup, in which players will represent their favorite brands. These races will be broadcasted live with commentary.
Winners of these two events will get to attend the annual FIA prize-giving ceremony alongside real life motorsport champions making it a first for the motorsport world as well.
Designing
Players will be able to customise the appearance of their cars thanks to the in-game livery editor that includes a number of licensed brand names, meaning you can create and recreate iconic racing designs.
The GT photography also makes a return and now features up to 1 000 locations that players can use to photograph their favorite cars.
Gran Turismo Sport launches on 18 November 2016. Pre-orders have already begun with prices starting at R899,00. No pricing or availability as yet for the Collector’s Edition (an exclusive miniature model of the Mercedes-AMG GTS and a detailed car-lover’s guide), Sport Steel Book Edition or Bonus Edition (a selection of digital exclusives and extras).
