Volkswagen previewed its most frugal iteration of the Golf 7 with its unveiling of the Golf BlueMotion concept at this year’s Paris Motor Show. While it may impress with CO2 emissions of less than100 g/km and a low fuel consumption figure, it still managed to raise the ire of the folks from Greenpeace.
Volkswagen has confirmed that the Mk7 version of its fuel-sipping Golf BlueMotion will easily best the current model’s fuel consumption and CO2 figures.
There are several other technologies which have been implemented to lower fuel consumption as far as possible. Apart from the stop/start and battery-regeneration systems, the Passat features low rolling-resistance tyres and a suspension system lowered by 15 mm at the front and 7,5 mm at the rear. There is also a revised radiator grille and an underbody panel. These aerodynamic changes help to lower the car’s drag coefficient.
With its Polo 1,2 TDI BlueMotion that has an economy figure of just 4,1 litres/100 km in the combined cycle, Volkswagen currently offers the most fuel efficient vehicle in South Africa. As a way of expanding its BlueMotion line-up to offer better consumption across its range, VWSA has now equipped the Tiguan with its BlueMotion technology (which joins the Golf and Touareg BlueMotion models).
