Gauteng locals Christian du Plooy and Henk Janse van Vuuren achieved their maiden win in the Production Vehicle formula of the National off-road championship at fifth round of the season, the Sun City 400, over the weekend.
The Team Castrol Toyota crews of Duncan Vos and Rob Howie, and Anthony Taylor and Chris Birking broke a 13 year curse of Toyota not being able to win at its home event – the Toyota Kalahari Botswana 1000 Desert Race – on the weekend as they cruised to a 1-2 finish and cemented their stranglehold on the championship.
The Toyota 1000 Desert Race, of which the latest event was held in Gaborone this past weekend, is said to be one of the toughest stages of the Absa South African Off-road Championship. And no team would agree more with this than Castrol Toyota.
