South Africans have been reluctant to buy hybrid vehicles. One of the reasons is because Government hasn’t provided cash incentives but, despite this, Toyota is trying to get local motorists to warm up to more responsible performance with its Yaris HSD.

Yaris Hybrid arrives in SA

Following the introduction of Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive on the Auris, the company has also launched the Yaris Hybrid with the same system – making it the smallest and most affordable full hybrid on sale in South Africa.

Thanks to Toyota’s alternative powertrain efforts in the past decade, and the environmentally conscious state of California, the world has woken to the hybrid front with almost every mass-producing manufacturer having developed or developing a system that not only prevents the wastage of energy but dramatically reduces fuel consumption and the emission of harmful gasses into the atmosphere. Toyota is undoubtedly still at the head of the green charge.

Toyota Yaris hybrid concept revealed

The Yaris HSD concept that was recently revealed at the Geneva Show represents the first hybrid in the competitive B-segment of the market for the Japanese company. It also showcases the cosmetic changes of the all-new Yaris that is set to make its international début later this year.
