The latest Mad Max movie will not be remembered for its plot or screenplay, but there is no denying that those Frankensteinian vehicles are awe-inspiring. Colin Gibson was the man responsible for creating the automotive insanities: more than 150 vehicles were built knowing that the chase across the desert in post-Apocalyptic times would take its toll on a few of them. Gibson decided to not choose any vehicles with carbon-fibre parts or computer chips as those would not be able to withstand the harsh desert conditions. He scavenged the globe for suitable wrecks to rebuild and that included Australia and our neighbouring country Namibia. The donor vehicles’ original model years range from 1940 to 1989. Although not strictly cutting edge technology-wise, the vehicles represent massive achievements, let alone works of art.
