It’s the end of days for the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, but the Golf rivalling hatchback is at least getting a proper send off in the form of a special edition called the Giulietta Edizione Finale.
Powered by the Giulietta’s flagship engine, that being the familiar 1750cc turbopetrol unit with 177kW and 350Nm, the edition boasts a few unique design details as well as a Magneti Marelli ‘Elaborazioni 1919’ sport exhaust system.
Available in white, blue and matte grey exterior colours only, the Giulietta Edizione is set apart by Dark Miron 18-inch alloy wheels and a carbon-look colour scheme for the grille, side skirts and mirror caps. Furthermore, the brake calipers and other trim elements receive contrasting yellow treatment.
This theme continues in the cabin with additional yellow accents as well as contrast stitching on the steering wheel and a unique yellow ‘Giulietta’ script on the floor mats.
The Giulietta nameplate is a historic one, having taken on many different forms in the past 67 years. After a long absence, the Giulietta badge was revived in 2010 with the current five-door hatchback model, which replaced the 147. Although the new Edizione Finale has not been announced for South African release as yet, the 1750cc Veloce model is still listed as for sale by vehicle information specialist Duoporta, with prices starting at R516 776.
But will there ever be a replacement for the Giulietta?
It seems unlikely that Alfa Romeo will produce another compact hatchback in this form, given the rising popularity of SUVs. To that end, the Giulietta will effectively be replaced by the Tonale crossover. The latter was meant to debut this year, but has since been delayed until early 2022 according to a recent report.
Alfa Romeo is also reportedly working on an even smaller model called the Brennero, which is expected to slot beneath the upcoming Tonale.
