The Mercedes-AMG EQS53 has been unveiled as the performance arm’s first ever all-electric product. The new model has been tailor-made for car enthusiasts that are looking for innovative electric mobility with a touch of sportiness.
Using an unchanged platform, the Mercedes-AMG EQS53 4Matic+ features a number of stringent alterations to align it with the AMG brand. This includes an increased power output of 484 kW and 950 N.m of torque but if you select the Dynamic Plus package, this will be increased to 560 kW and 1 020 N.m in Race Start mode with the boost function.
With this, the EV sedan boasts a claimed 0-100 km/h sprint time of 3,4 seconds while top speed is limited to 250 km/h. If you are in possession of the base model, a sprint time of 3,8 seconds will be made available together with a top speed of 220 km/h.
The performance arm assures that the traditional element of sound has not been abandoned with the new Mercedes-AMG EQS53. This model brings a new sonorous sound to electric driving via a set of special loudspeakers, shakers and a sound generator to create a special sound experience in two versions of “Authentic” or “Performance”. This exclusive sound experience is generated inside and out with a tonality and intensity to match the current driving status, the selected driving mode or the driver’s wishes.
The AMG-specific electric motors at the front and rear axles are permanently excited synchronous motors. These electric motors claim to offer optimum balance of enhanced power, efficiency and noise comfort. Among other things, new windings, stronger currents and new actuation via inverters with specially developed software have been installed. This allows higher rotational speeds and thus more power, setting standards especially in acceleration and top speed.
The power of the battery-powered motors in the Mercedes-AMG EQS53 is brought to the road by the standard AMG performance 4Matic+ fully variable all-wheel drive system. The system continuously distributes the drive torques between the front and rear axles, depending on the driving situation. Compared to a mechanical all-wheel drive system, the electro-specific system ensures a significantly faster response.
