Another week, another off-beat drag race from the folks over at CarWow in the United Kingdom. This time, the contenders are all diesel-powered double-cab bakkies with automatic transmissions.
It’s an interesting mix, with the V6-powered Volkswagen Amarok boasting a distinct power advantage over its four rivals, as the Mercedes-Benz X-Class featured here is seemingly a four-cylinder X250d rather than the six-cylinder X350d.
The remaining participants are the Ford Ranger (in 2,2-litre guise), the Toyota Hilux (in 2,4-litre form) and the pre-facelift Mitsubishi Triton (also in 2,4-litre flavour), which is also known as the L200 in some markets.
While the winner of the drag battle and race from a rolling start should be fairly obvious, it’s still interesting to see where the rest of the contenders fall. And how each model fares in a braking test.
