
Yes, it’s another drag race from the studious folks over at CarWow. This time, the BMW X3 M40i lines up against two rivals that bring electric assistance to the table.
As a reminder, the Munich-based firm’s M40i-badged X3 generates 265 kW from its turbocharged 3,0-litre straight-six engine.
The BMW crossover’s first rival on the drag strip comes in the form of the plug-in hybrid Volvo XC60 T8 Polestar Engineered, which churns out a combined 309 kW thanks to a 2,0-litre petrol engine and an electric motor.
Then there’s the (also plug-in hybrid) Audi Q5 55 TFSI e, which likewise combines a 2,0-litre petrol engine with an electric motor, here for a combined output of 270 kW. Of course, while these two hybrid models are more powerful than the BMW, they’re heavier, too, thanks largely to their weighty battery packs.
