In the June 2024 issue of CAR, we were afforded the exclusive opportunity to strap our road-test equipment to the new Mercedes-AMG C63 S E Performance sedan to conduct a first-in-South Africa road test. However, just how will the electrified C63 S perform in a drag race against its raucous V8 forebear? As a reminder, the C63 S E Performance’s powertrain, which comprises a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbopetrol and electric motor, produces a whopping 500 kW and 1 020 N.m of torque, 125 kW and 320 N.m more than the 4.0-litre V8 sited below the bonnet of the previous generation. However, the C63 S E Performance wagon is considerably heavier (2 190 vs 1 750 kg).
