The folks over at Parkers in the United Kingdom thought it’d be interesting to pit the new Suzuki Swift Sport against two other small front-wheel-drive hatches – one hot and the other warm – in a drag race.
Yes, the Swift Sport – which we’re expecting to finally arrive in South Africa in 2019 – takes on the 85 kW/200 N.m Volkswagen Up GTI (which isn’t coming to local shores) and the 147 kW/290 N.m Ford Fiesta ST (which has also been ruled out for SA) in a straight-line battle.
In terms of power, the little Suzuki slots in fairly neatly between its two foes, employing a 1,4-litre turbocharged petrol engine that sends 103 kW and 230 N.m to the front axle. All three use manual transmissions.
So, can the Up GTI keep, er, up? And will the Swift Sport give the Fiesta ST a run for its money? Watch the video above to find out…
